What inspired you to join iBuildBridges?

I'm here to show people that music belongs to everyone willing to accept it.

What’s something unique you contribute to the group?

I think I'm a pretty flexible guy. Exceptionally flexible. I’m not easily overwhelmed, and I love new challenges and opportunities.

What are your musical influences?

I'm trained in both classical and jazz, so I have a long list of influences. But I’d say my first was Louis Armstrong. I've played Duke Ellington's Portrait of Louis Armstrong for a couple years now, and I find myself styling notes like him.

What’s your favorite iBuildBridges ensemble piece to perform, and why?

Hineh Ma Tov. That piece is so freaking cool, and I love it. It’s a beat like no other, something you can’t help dance and weave to.

What has being part of iBuildBridges meant to you?

Being a part of this organization means a great deal to me. At first, I thought it was just a jazz combo, but there’s so much more. I get to play and experience so many genres.

Why is music important to you?

Music is the ultimate gravitational force. It brings us all together like no other: it is the call for peace and rebellion, the binding of nations and the splitting of continents, and the signal of despair and hope. Music is the art of the soul and ears.

How do you spend your time outside of iBuildBridges?

I play Apex Legends. I'm currently in Silver 3 and slipping down in Silver 4. Help me.

Are you involved with any other music-related organizations?

Apart from school bands, I’ve played in the Tacoma Youth Symphony for six years now. We’re currently working on Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony.
